Who we are

The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) is made up of seven north London boroughs (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest).

Some 1.7million residents live in the NLWA area and we are responsible for the disposal of almost one million tonnes of waste every year. We need to work together to:

  • achieve a 50% recycling rate by 2020
  • reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill to 35% (of 1995 amounts) by 2020

We are working on one of the largest procurement projects in the UK today, which will deliver new waste infrastructure for north London.

Find out more about us and the difference you can make by reducing your waste and improving your recycling.

Authority Members

Meet Cllr Clyde Loakes, Chair of the NLWA, along with the other members of the NLWA’s board – two from each of the seven north London authority member boroughs.

What happens to your waste?

LondonWaste, a company wholly owned by the NLWA, deals with the disposal of most of your household waste and recycling.  Find out more about what happens after it disappears from your kerbside.  There’s a great video for you to view too.  We also have some great tips for residents, businesses and schools.
